The Reason
In general, ritual has been eclipsed by consumerism and busy-ness in our Western culture. We bring honor and respect to our lives, and those we care about, by pausing the hurriedness of activity and acknowledging an important life-moment and transformation. When we do this we are supported to make smoother and more integrated transitions. The tradition of welcoming babies through ritual roots back to wise, ancient cultures. This rich tradition is being reintroduced into modern day pregnancy, because it produces good results for mother, baby, and family.
Pre – and perinatal literature and research are teaching us that babies are coherent in the womb and fondly recognize songs, books, and places from their fetal beginnings! Many parents report their children respond positively to the songs they heard in utero. Clinical reports also show that a critical factor in a fetus’ development is whether or not they are wanted and welcomed. Making sure your baby knows she/he is loved, wanted, and welcomed is the essence that permeates all aspects of Baby Welcoming™.
